Ok, so if we didn’t already have the title of “world’s worst blog updaters” we know that the title is now officially ours. It has been a month since Kellen joined our family and while it has certainly been busy, we probably could have spared a moment or two to update everyone. One giant apology to the grandparents, family, and friends who have been asking for an update and more importantly for pictures – but here you go.
Jill and I started our (more hers than mine) delivery experience late on Wednesday night as she woke me up by calmly saying, “I think my water just broke.” Not the panic that I expected and certainly not the level of certainty that I expected, but after getting up and doing some last minute preparations we headed to the hospital. Three hours later we were out of the triage area and in our own room with the nurses saying that we better take advantage of our last opportunity to catch some shut-eye. We were able to fade in and out of sleep for a couple of hours until the doctor came in around 6:00. He confirmed that we were definitely going to be leaving with a baby and so we called our parents and from there the morning quickly progressed. Nurses continued to check on Jill and we met with the anesthesiologist, but Kellen confirmed that we will no longer be able to plan as much as we would like, as he came prior to Jill getting the epidural.
Kellen was born at 11:27 a.m on Thursday, December 31, 2009. He weighed 7 lbs 6 oz and was 20.5 inches long.
Both sets of grandparents were waiting outside of the room and rushed in as soon as we gave them the green light.
The first night was filled with feedings and sleeping. He must have known how tired we were as he was calm and allowed us to get some much needed rest.
We stayed at the hospital for approximately 30 hours and then we were out the door. It’s still hard to believe that they just give you five minutes of instruction and then trust that you are capable enough to handle the rest. We’re not saying that we’re not capable, but think about it ----- the whole process just seems a little crazy.
Again, sorry for the lack of updates but we have made it our February 1 resolution (we seem to be a month behind on everything) to update more often. We will work our way back a bit and catch you all up on what filled our lives between September and December and try as well as try a bit harder to keep current and add some more recent updates as well. After all, no one wants to have the title of “world’s worst blog updaters.”
